Anna Abraham and Tala Araghi successfully defended their honors theses last week!
Each led a project from question development through writing up their data analysis. They were both mentored by PhD student Carly Busch and will be traveling to SABER this summer to share their fantastic work!
Anna conducted an audit study to examine medical school admission committee member biases toward applicants with mental health conditions. Excitingly, she found no significant differences in committee member ratings of applicants with and without mental health conditions among acceptability, likability, and credibility.
Tala conducted an in-depth interview study of 30 undergraduates with depression enrolled in active learning sciences courses to examine the relationship between active learning and depression. She identified the engaging aspect of active learning, the social aspect of active learning, opportunities for students to compare themselves to others, and opportunities to validate/invalidate one's intelligence had alleviating and exacerbating effects on students' depressive symptoms.
