Tasneem was featured by ASU News for her collaboration with Katey on creating more-inclusive lab spaces for Muslim research mentees in science. Together with Dr. Elizabeth Barnes, they published an essay in CBE Life Sciences Education addressing potential challenges Muslim students may face in research environments, such as prayer obligations, observing Islamic holidays, and upholding modesty. Their work offers guidance to mentors and highlights ways to accommodate religious practices while fostering mutual understanding. The essay reflects Tasneem’s journey from questioning her place as a Muslim woman in science to co-authoring a guide for inclusivity, demonstrating how academic aspirations and faith can coexist.
