Katey published a study along with collaborators Matt Knope, Maya Munstermann, and Sara Brownell examining the impact of students analyzing their own data in a CURE.
In this study, we compared the experiences of two groups of students enrolled in the same CURE. In one group students analyzed data they had collected and in the other group students analyzed data that had been collected by other scientists. We found that, compared to students who analyzed scientists' data, students who analyzed their own data demonstrated greater gains in scientific identity and emotional ownership.
