Katey was featured by ASU News for her recent study addressing the mental health crisis among science graduate students. Their research revealed that aspects of graduate education, such as negative reinforcement in research and increased responsibility in teaching, exacerbate anxiety and depression. On the other hand, supportive mentorship and positive reinforcement from teaching were shown to alleviate these symptoms. Their findings underlie the urgent need for more inclusive and supportive environments in science graduate education.
