In Spring 2020, Katey taught a Bio Ed Course-based Undergraduate Research Experience or CURE to 19 UCF undergrads. As a class, these researchers (pictured) tackled a real research project over the course of a semester! Impressively, this awesome team managed to collect all their data just before we went online for COVID19 and conducted the analyses working completely remotely. The team included ASU grad students Erika Nadile and Nick Wiesenthal.
Their work has now resulted in TWO publications!
One, which explored gender differences in student comfort voluntarily asking and answering questions in large-enrollment college science courses, was published this week in JMBE: https://journals.asm.org/doi/epub/10.1128/jmbe.00100-21
We also examined students' perceptions of asking and answering questions in large-enrollment college science courses more broadly. Check out the other paper here: https://journals.plos.org/plosone/article?id=10.1371/journal.pone.0243731
