Nature highlighted Katey's research in collaboration with the American Society of Cell Biology's LGBTQ+ committee. This study was the largest study of LGBTQ+ biologists and found that transgender and gender non-conforming biologists (TGNC) reported lower belonging and morale than straight cis biologists with regard to the biology community, biology workplaces, and biology professional societies. While LGBTQ+ biologists reported moderately inclusive workplace climates, nearly 40% of LGBTQ+ biologists have experienced discrimination at work.
